This map provides a brief outline of the fuel sulphur content regulations promulgated by California, China and the EU.

Emissions from ocean-going vessels are significant sources of air pollution and have an adverse impact on public health and air quality. As part of measures implemented to prevent air pollution, MARPOL Annex VI specifies requirements related to sulphur content of fuel oil used on board ships, in general and for the dedicated Emission Control Areas (ECA) in particular.

The regions affected are shown on the map using a colour code and associated key. Summary information is provided below the map outlining further information on the regulations themselves.

If Emissions Regulations are of particular concern, we recommend purchasing the Shipping Guides MARPOL 73/78 Map in conjunction with this map.
